Baking with Margarine – Tips and Recipes!

Baking with Margarine! People compare both butter and margarine when it comes to baking i.e. what to use and what not to use; but at the end, it’s about the personal preferences. Cookies made with butter or margarine basically comes out the same.

butter substitute baking

Bakers claim that for baking butter should be preferred but, then there are also those who have been using margarine in those same cookie recipes for almost 50 years and so. Margarine is a butter substitute made mainly of refined vegetable oil and water. Margarine, is a manmade butter which consists of a water-in-fat emulsion, with tiny droplets of water dispersed uniformly throughout a fat phase which is in a stable crystalline form. The lighter version i.e. “light margarine” contains water as the first ingredient. For baking lighter versions are not recommended as it make cookies flat and it may burn them too.

Margarine is a man-made product which was invented in 1869, in France when animal fat and its product was too expensive and was not in abundance. Then Emperor Napoleon III offered a prize to anyone if they can come up with a cheap butter substitute that is easily accessible.
